With seat covers, fit decides almost everything: a cover that fits beats an expensive one that slides around. Ostrall asks which Jeep it is for and reads the models and years from every listing, so you see only covers made for yours.

Model and generation
Covers are made for a specific model and range of years. Wrangler generations are the TJ (1997–2006), JK (2007–2018) and JL (2018 on); the Gladiator is the JT. The Grand Cherokee, Cherokee, Compass and Renegade each have their own seat shapes.
Right-hand drive
New Zealand Jeeps are right-hand drive. Front covers usually come as a left and right pair, but seat levers, power-seat switches, seatbelt buckles and the centre armrest sit where a New Zealand-new Jeep puts them, so covers listed for right-hand-drive Jeeps fit with every opening in the right place.
2-door or 4-door, and the rear seat
A 2-door Wrangler and a 4-door Unlimited have different rear benches, and rear seats split differently between models and years. Rear covers are cut to match the split, armrest and cup holders.
Side-airbag seats
Many Jeep front seats have an airbag in the outer side of the seat. Covers made for those seats have tear-away stitching on that side and are labelled side-airbag compatible.
Materials
- Neoprene: water resistant and comfortable, popular for the beach, the river and wet gear.
- Canvas: very tough, for dogs, hunting gear, tools and work use.
- Leatherette (faux leather): wipes clean and looks smart; hot in summer sun with the top off.
- Fabric and mesh: lowest price and breathable.
Custom fit or universal
Custom-fit covers are cut for your exact seats, with openings for headrests, belts, child-seat anchors and levers. Universal covers cost less. Extras such as MOLLE webbing and seat-back pockets add storage.
